Shabby Chic

This is my very late entry for the Simon Says Stamp and Show Challenge. This week the theme is 'Shabby Chic '. I created this artwork by covering a large tag with Prima Botanical papers and aging the edges with frayed burlap and gathered twigs distress inks. I mounted this onto a piece of board which I also covered with patterned paper. I then cut out smaller tags using my Cricut machine and aged them in the same way. The embellishments used on the tags are charity shop finds in the form of broken jewellery pieces. It's surprising what you can find in charity shops, I buy old necklaces and bracelets and then keep all the pieces in jars. I use them to make key rings or as in this case add to my artworks. I also used a Tim Holtz ideology type charm, dies, and stamps not forgetting an old postage stamp and a piece of old lace. I was pleased at how this turned out, I think it has a prettiness about it as well as a vintage feel.

Less Is More

They do say that "less is more" and I definitely feel that this is the case with this artwork. I painted a very simple background using gesso and acrylics. When I finished this I thought that it didn't need anymore added to it than this drawing of a girl.
