A couple of weeks ago I was supposed to demo and teach at the Craft Barn Extravaganza sadly due to debilitating back problems I was unable to do so. I have apologised to Sandy but would like to do so again and to apologise to all of you who booked on my class and to thank Rachel for stepping in and taking my class for me. The medication has started to work and I am feeling a lot better.

Eileen Hull designs scoreboard dies for Sizzix. Her 'Artist Trading Block' dies are proving to be very popular and I wanted to show you my examples to demonstrate how versatile they can be. The wonderful paper artist Su Blackwell inspired me and this led me to create the butterfly block whilst my collage by numbers artwork was the basis of my collage box.

I had a lot of fun creating these and I hope you like them.

I recently taught a mixed media class at the Craft Barn. I want to thank the eight lovely ladies who spent the day with me playing and creating art, they all produced beautiful canvases. As promised here are the photos of my canvas and card. Hope to see you all again soon.
I am guilty for neglecting my blog and I can't offer an excuse other than I have been making the most of the amazing weather that we have had this summer. However in the last couple of weeks the nights have been drawing in and as the children have started a new school year the summer is well and truly over.

Last November my post of my baby shoes proved to be very popular so I thought that I would show you these girlie shoes that I designed and made at the same time.

I have got some amazing news! The great British Sixties Society Photographer Philip Townsend and good friend of my husband has kindly given me permission to use any of his images in my artwork. Wow!

I created this psychedelic background with shaving foam. If you haven't tried this technique you must give it a go.

I used a plastic food container and I lined it with plastic wrap (cling film). The reason that I did this is that it is easier to remove the foam from the tray and throw it away leaving it clean and ready to be used again.

I sprayed some inexpensive shaving foam into the tray. You need around 1" depth. I then selected two ink colours. You can use Dylusions or Ranger Colourwash sprays. I sprayed a few squirts of ink onto the foam and then used a wooden skewer to draw some patterns. Then I laid a piece of cardstock onto the foam and pressed lightly making sure that that there was complete contact. I removed the cardstock and scraped off the foam with a plastic ruler (you can use thick card), wiped off any excess with kitchen paper. It's that simple but so effective.

When dry I transferred the image onto the card. I chose this image from one of Philip's fashion shoots from 1964. Please visit his website for a trip back in time.
I demoed at the Extravaganza at the beginning of June. What a wonderful weekend, it was lovely to catch up with the other demonstrators, see old friends and meet new people. Thank you to all of you who came and sat and watched me play and to the staff who worked incredibly hard making sure that we were all looked after.

I haven't posted anything on my blog for a while as my mum and dad have been in hospital. Life has a way of reminding you of what is truly important by putting things into perspective. I'm blessed and thankful that I still have my parents with me.

A couple of friends came over recently and we worked on drawing profiles. This is the result of my efforts. I still keep looking at it thinking do I add words or more stamping? It's always knowing when to stop. Having said that I may look at it in a couple of weeks time and decide to carry on.

To create this artwork I used multi medium matte to stick down Tim Holtz's Melange tissue wrap onto a 12x12 canvas board. I then painted a thin layer of gesso over the surface and wiped off any excess with a baby wipe and dried this with a heat tool. Then I used Paper Artsy's Fresco translucent paints in claret and south pacific to add colour and still be able to see the tissue. I drew the profile onto the canvas and painted the whole image with white acrylic paint. This gave me a base to work with. I drew her features and painted her with acrylics. The scarf was cut from patterned paper and the butterfly was cut from a Tim Holtz's die using grunge board to give it flexibilty. I then covered this with patterned paper and embellished it with a few pearls. I put moulding paste through a honeycomb stencil to add texture and rubbed over this once it was dry with acrylic paint. I finshed the artwork by randomly stamping over the surface using archival inks and Stampers Anonymous stamps.

Phew! Hope that this all makes sense.
This is my very late entry for the Simon Says Stamp and Show Challenge. This week the theme is 'Shabby Chic '. I created this artwork by covering a large tag with Prima Botanical papers and aging the edges with frayed burlap and gathered twigs distress inks. I mounted this onto a piece of board which I also covered with patterned paper. I then cut out smaller tags using my Cricut machine and aged them in the same way. The embellishments used on the tags are charity shop finds in the form of broken jewellery pieces. It's surprising what you can find in charity shops, I buy old necklaces and bracelets and then keep all the pieces in jars. I use them to make key rings or as in this case add to my artworks. I also used a Tim Holtz ideology type charm, dies, and stamps not forgetting an old postage stamp and a piece of old lace. I was pleased at how this turned out, I think it has a prettiness about it as well as a vintage feel.

They do say that "less is more" and I definitely feel that this is the case with this artwork. I painted a very simple background using gesso and acrylics. When I finished this I thought that it didn't need anymore added to it than this drawing of a girl.
I came across this papier mache box that I bought last year from the Craft Barn. I thought that I could use it to keep all those small bits and pieces in that I use as embellishments for my work. I painted and distressed it using acrylics and Tim Holtz distress inks.
This painting is from a photograph taken a little while ago, so when I showed my son the artwork he commented on how young he looked. I must add that he did see it as a work in progress and before I added the stubble.
Happy New Year. I hope that you all had a wonderful Christmas. I just cannot believe that the holidays are over.

The Simon Says Stamp and Show Challenge theme this week is ‘Embrace The Old.’ I have never joined in a challenge before so I thought that I would give this a try. As my son goes back to school this week I thought that I would base my artwork on education. This collage does hold sentimental value. The large image is of my husband’s great grandmother, a very beautiful lady whilst the image of the children is from a section of a ninety year old original whole school photograph of the school that my daughter attended. When my daughter was a pupil there it was a girl’s convent school. I bought this in a boot fair a few years ago. I think I paid £2 for it and I love it, I just couldn’t bring myself to use the original photo so I scanned this portion. The colour image of the little boy is from a Janet and John book that I bought on Ebay. I remember reading this series of books at school when I was six.

To create this collage I stuck the page from an old encyclopaedia, the image of the children and the old school report onto the canvas board with Claudine Hellmuth’s matt medium. I then sealed this by applying a coat of matt medium over the whole canvas. When dry I used a blending tool to apply antique linen and frayed burlap distress inks. I transferred the image of my husband’s great grandmother onto the canvas. I think that she has the look of a schoolteacher. I then added the old postage stamp (also a purchase from ebay), words, letters, numbers and the Janet and John little boy. The stamped ‘abc ‘ is from Graphic 45.

Your comments are always greatly appreciated.
This is my first Christmas post and I must apologise for it being so close to Christmas. This year Christmas has just crept up on me and I have only just dressed the tree and decorated the house. This is late for me considering that on the 1st December the Christmas albums come out and every morning I ring my children and let them listen to whatever track I'm playing and wish them a Merry Christmas. As you can imagine hearing Frosty the Snowman or White Christmas on the train or in the office can be embarrassing. Ahhh.... but having said that if I'm late ringing them they call me. They have even told that some of their friends have asked if I can ring them too!
Anyway, I wanted to show you a couple of angels that I have made. The first angel is mostly made up of products from Tim Holtz. The second angel's face is from Wendy Vecchi's 'Dress form and more' art part. Unfortunately I haven't got the phrenology stamp that would go with this so I painted her face. I drew and cut out an arch shape from thick card for the body and painted and distressed this with acrylics and distress inks.
I can't believe that it's been over two weeks since I posted anything on my blog. I've been suffering with a bad back. This has been debilitating as well as frustrating as I paint or get messy with art in some form on a daily basis and I haven't been able to do this. I created this artwork a little while ago in fact I've made several as gifts for friends and family. They have all been slightly different. This is a fun project and I love the effect you get when you play with numbers and letters. Hope you like it too. I took the plunge yesterday and put Lina's Art on Facebook. This is a totally new experience for me so please bear with me while I play catch up with the rest of the social networking world. Please press the link on the right hand side and like my facebook page or be a follower on my blog.

I started my blog three months ago and on my first post I showed you artworks in pop art style that I had painted of my children. Whenever I look through photographs of them I remember the moment when the photo was taken, just like yesterday so to speak. Where has the time gone? Here is a painting that I have just completed of my daughter. My husband looked at it and said that she looked as though she was crying. No, she is deep in concentration. She is a beautiful and caring girl who is always full of fun.
I needed to add a bit
of colour to my blog after the dark post on Halloween. Whenever we go away on
holiday, or just away for a few days the first thing we do when we get home is
to have 'a nice cup of tea'. Nothing can beat this; it's like a welcome home
ritual. I feel that there is something very British about a cup of tea. With
that in mind I've created this collage and added the affectionate cockney slang
term 'Rosie Lee'.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06573298094926368992noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9203009112559285493.post-47466326149785776182012-10-12T09:02:00.000-07:002013-02-02T13:51:49.172-08:00Halloween

I wanted to create a graveyard scene for Halloween. When I saw the new Tim Holtz Stampers Anonymous Apothecary set I knew that the skull would be perfect for my artwork. My skull needed a body so I stuck the stamped image onto a piece of card. I then made a coat from strips of paper which I aged and distresssed using acrylics. In order to achieve a 3D effect I used foam pads on some of the elements in the collage. I incorporated a lot of texture in this mixed media artwork I used chalk pastels for the sky, moulding paste for the ground and a marbling effect on the tombstones.
I was looking through some family photos. You know what that's like. It starts off being that you are looking for a particular picture and then you get completely consumed in the memories that each photograph holds. Well as I said, I was enjoying looking through photos and I came across an old photo of my husband's grandmother. She was a beautiful lady. I thought I would have a go at trying to paint her portrait. It was quite a challenge to work from such a small photo but once I put some music on I became thoroughly absorbed in my painting. I usually end up with nearly as much paint on my clothes as on the canvas. I have trousers that I wear specifically to paint in they look like a Jackson Pollock creation. I painted this portrait using acrylics on canvas. I hope that I have captured her essence and that you like it.

I always think that there is a freshness and innocence about them. This summer I saw a couple of teenage girls wearing them in their hair. I was too young for the hippy movement but I thought of this when I saw the girls. What a lovely form of jewellery.

I have just got back from a short break in North Devon. The scenery was breath taking. I can’t believe that we are now in September and the school holidays are all but over. This always signifies to me the end of the summer and with the nights already drawing in I thought I would post some colourful mixed media pieces of work.

With mixed media you are able to combine a number of elements to create interesting art. The wonderful mixed media artist Christy Tomlinson inspired me. This led me to create the following pieces of artwork. The first three canvases are hand drawn. I incorporated very simple shapes for the second and third so that those of you who lack the confidence to draw can see that this is possible. Being misshapen adds quirkiness and fun. For the fourth canvas I used a Sizzix birdhouse die. Using dies makes this form of art accessible to all.

I had a lot of fun creating these and I hope you like them.

Here are a couple of greeting cards I created using watercolour techniques. To achieve the best results I always use good quality watercolour paper (Weight 300gsm/140lb). Benefits being that you don’t have to stretch the paper.

I prefer to paint with traditional brushes rather than the water brushes as I feel that I am in control of the amount of water and paint needed. I love painting in this way working from light to dark and the translucent effect that you can achieve. I painted the first card with Derwent Inktense pencils and the second card with Tim Holtz distress inks. The images are from the single stamp range at Woodware.
